WHAT ARE LOW-PRESSURE TAPS?

Low-Pressure BLANCO kitchen taps are used when open-vented, non-pressurised water heaters are connected to a non-pressurised hot water tank rather than the main hot water supply. An open-vented water heating system has special technical requirements for low pressure taps, as they are designed to meet those needs.

Low pressure kitchen taps from BLANCO UK are mainly used alongside BLANCO sinks in the kitchen. The low-pressure BLANCO Taps are generally combined with sprays and swivel spouts.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGH-PRESSURE AND LOW-PRESSURE TAPS

Note that there is no difference in the appearance of low-pressure and high-pressure faucets. They differ only in functionality. The low-pressure sink taps are used when an instantaneous water heater provides hot water. In this instance, we have three connections rather than two because two connections are made to the boiler, and one is needed for the water supply. Cold water enters the fitting from the connecting valve when the BLANCO taps are opened.

The desired hot-to-cold water mixing ratio determines the direction of water flow in the faucet. It runs straight to the outflow if only cold water is needed. If hot or warm water is required, cold water flows from the tap into the boiler at a lower pressure, pushing the hot water that has been previously stored into the kitchen mixer tap through the third connection.

It is mixed in the desired heat after being diluted with cold water. The water heater's tank fills as the hot water is pulled out. Low-pressure BLANCO kitchen taps deliver only a modest amount of pressure into the boiler. If the valve is closed, the storage tank's water supply is cut off, which results in the tank losing pressure. Low-pressure valves are more expensive than high-pressure ones because of their more complicated design.

Knowing which hot water system is installed in your kitchen before buying kitchen mixer taps is important because UK homes typically have one of two primary types: pressurised or non-pressurised.

There are two types of pressurised water systems:

  1. Modern combi boilers or gas water heaters that provide a constant flow of hot water are typically high-pressure water systems. If your BLANCO sink are fitted with this system, you most likely need a hot water storage tank or cylinder, only a boiler unit.
  2. A hot water cylinder with an expansion vessel on top makes up a High Pressure Pumped Water System. No matter where BLANCO taps are located in the house, the cylinders that make up this system, known as an unvented system and pressurised to maintain water pressure, provide a powerful flow of hot water when you switch it on. You would often not have a cold-water tank with this arrangement, and these are typically placed in the airing cupboard.

Non-pressurised water systems, on the other usually have a cold-water tank in the attic and a hot water tank in the airing cupboard. These systems are also referred to as Gravity fed systems.

WHEN DO YOU NEED LOW-PRESSURE KITCHEN MIXER TAPS?

It is utilised in decentralised hot water systems, such as those that use instantaneous water heaters or hot water tanks. A low-pressure mixing valve is definitely necessary because these cannot sustain the pressure of a regular water supply. Without one, a high-pressure water supply could cause the instantaneous water heater tank to rupture.
